Can someone let me co-drive their car? I don't think my MR2 is good for that kinda event, maybe open track day.

I have driven at NPR full course once with Benson. Hopefully, Benson can verify for me. I am pretty confident with the course.... errrmmm OK, I admit it.. I am pretty fast at NPR but not crazy driver... conservatively fast... or whatever you wanna call it.

Anyway, Carver or Beson.. can ya forward me that email? kennethmina@hotmail.com

Thanks!

With all this new found HP i have in the bunny i may have to do a track day soon. But far in the future, not enough money and the car itself is far from ready for track.

Not many on here except for Benson going to let you drive there cars. Nothing against you but most of us on here have been racing/known each other for quite a few years. One wrong move at npr and you could be buying someone a new car.

Remember, BMW CCA requires a PRE-tech inspection. This is not done at the track, but before the event.
00 Trans Ram
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The reason I've never thought of attending a BMW or Porsche event is the cost:laps ratio. I've always heard they are expensive ($140 seems to bear this out) and that you don't get many laps. Also, I've heard that anyone not having a license or copious experience must have an instructor in the car.

With all those rules, it just never seemed worth it. Have I heard wrong?
joe_914
Matt has got to be the smartest man I know. Next to me. I was thinking the car thing. 130 sort of exceeds my limit also. Probably going to hold off on all the track days till I get some safety things done to the car.

Chris we gotta talk about a roll bar for my buggy.
00 Trans Ram
Damn - coming from you, Joe, that's a compliment! Thanks!!

(I always knew I liked you!)
UnseenIllusion
those are some pretty good points...maybe the 30th event will be a little cheaper and possibly more runs/fun
SLUF
Heard wrong for sure. The BMW club events are great providers of seat time for the money at a track day event. As a novice you can expect at least two or three classroom sessions and four on-track sessions per day. Usually there are five run groups: Novice; Intermediate, Intermediate-Advanced; Advanced; and Instructors. Most of the events provide up to 2-3 hours of track time per day. You will have an instructor in your vehicle till he/she feels you are competent enough to be by yourself. Our St. Louis chapter does not sign novice students off their first weekend as policy. The BMW club stresses SAFETY,SAFETY, and more SAFETY in a controlled environment for high performance driving. First and foremost THIS IS NOT A RACING SCHOOL! It is about learning to extract performance out of your vehicle no matter what the make/model may be. As a veteran SCCA/BMW club member and racer I strongly recommend you participate. It is extremely addictive and you will suddenly realize tires, shocks, sway bars, and other similar goodies are not only must have items but will take the place of things like food, the kids college fund (screw them anyway!), and all other normal expenses your significant other feels are conducive to a "normal" home life.

The application states....

Self Tech of your car by the driver will be required. If you have not had your car checked out by a shop lately, please have that done.

It doesn't sound like they are requiring a shop to sign off on a technical inspection, just a suggestion that you have it done.
joe_914
Ain't no shops that can adequately check my car better than I can. Except they will charge me more money to tell me my brakes are not stock, my header is too loud, you have a rust spot on the fender. and you should use this fancy schmancy wax to get that shine back. tongue.gif

Had and instructor and a damn good one. But he drives a Civic Hatch vs. a BMW.

I just need practice.
Dave
Damn, I just realize that this event is the day before TLAC IV at Zephyrs.

Lets see, how many clean runs did you get at the last autox?
How many cones did I pull from under your VW?
HAHA come play both days Joe. You can crash at my place and or split a room in NO.
Carver

mongo says Hassan is slow!
joe_914
Only takes 1 clean run.
I think you pulled ALL of the cones except the one that was melting up against the header. (chicken)

My my we certainly are of on a bike ride now huh?

I now have Nitrogen for our bike tires.
I have done lots of reading and it is supose to be the man.
And you know Mongo is taking this personal so I bought some to try out.
May be willing to sell if it is worth while to others.
Damn it is cheap.
Carver
00 Trans Ram
I'd like to try that stuff. I've heard it works pretty well. Not sure about autox, since my tires just don't heat up. But for a road course, heck yeah!

How much does it cost? Where do you get it?

I have plenty, we can fill your tires at the next event. I think I will charge $5 and recoop some of my money out of the bottle and regulator.
Carver
golftdibrad
Bit late carver? go to sleep.

air is 70% nithrogen anyway, so unless your using liquid n2 to keep the tires cold its not a big deal. All that drifting and riding bikes makes tires hot.
ccarver
You are correct, in that air is 70% nitrogen. The issue is that 90+ humidity that we live in. The compressed nitrogen is 100% dry and does not have the expansion rate of the compressed air. Inert gasses are the man when they are used correctly. Pressure creap is an issue when roadracing. I start out with 38 in all 4 tires and end up with variations of 45-47. The expansion rate is different in each wheel because of the water content of that tire. So yes it is not a huge deal. but it is another variable that we can control to make the driver even more at fault for being so damn slow.

And it is not late anymore, it is early.
00 Trans Ram
That's the exact reason I've been told. I wonder if a water remover or filter (like used for spray guns) would achieve the same effect?

Now, liquid nitrogen would be sweet to have! I bet it'd keep the tire temps down on those long endurance races!! wink.gif
ccarver
Bottle I have says compressed Liquid Nitrogen.
So if you want to fill your tires with the liquid I guess we could.
Might make them hard to reach a traction temp.
Hassan
Yeah I am slow.. we will find out on the BMW track day wink.gif

Lol

They would warm up, expand, then blow the tire seal. No question about it. It would happen in a few minutes after you loaded it. tongue.gif

I'd assume each tire has about the same water content if they were aired up around the same time from the same compressor. The variation has more to do with the track and driving style. Outside tires do more work, and speed comes into play.

Yes it would. I have a refridgerated dryer on the air compressor at work. It gets 45-50% indoor humidity down to less than 2% before it even reaches the tank. We've got some filters afterwards that reduce it down further. I aired up the TLAC rubber with this when I had Tim's trailer, and filled his air tank with it too (after I painted it NOS Blue!).

Dunno if it made any difference biggrin.gif
